Shueisha‘s Jump j Books label revealed on Monday that Kaiu Shirai and Posuka Demizu‘s The Promised Neverland (Yakusoku no Neverland) manga will get a new novel titled Yakusoku no Neverland: Mama-tachi no Tsuisōkyoku (The Promised Neverland: Moms’ Song of Remembrance). Nanao is penning the novel, and it is slated to ship on January 4.
The manga focuses on Isabella, the “Mom” of the kids at Grace Field House, and Sister Krone. After the kids escape, Isabella stays behind and finds a piece of paper in the burning house. The paper reminds her of a boy who became her reason for aiming to be a Mom. Meanwhile, in her last moments, Sister Krone remembers her path in training to be a sister..
An earlier novel, Yakusoku no Neverland: Norman kara no Tegami (The Promised Neverland: A Letter from Norman), shipped in Japan on June 4.
Viz Media publishes the original manga in North America, and it describes the story:
Emma, Norman and Ray are the brightest kids at the Grace Field House orphanage. And under the care of the woman they refer to as “Mom,” all the kids have enjoyed a comfortable life. Good food, clean clothes and the perfect environment to learn—what more could an orphan ask for? One day, though, Emma and Norman uncover the dark truth of the outside world they are forbidden from seeing.
Shirai and Demizu launched the manga in Shueisha‘s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in August 2016, and the series has entered its final arc as of September. Shueisha shipped the manga’s 11th compiled volume on November 2. The manga has more than 7 million copies in print worldwide, with more than 4.2 million copies in print in Japan.
The manga won the Best Shōnen Manga award at the 63rd Shogakukan Manga Awards in January, was nominated for the 11th Manga Taisho awards in January, and was nominated for the 22nd Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in February. The series also topped the 2018 edition of Takarajimasha‘s Kono Manga ga Sugoi!(This Manga Is Amazing!) guidebook’s list of manga for male readers last December.
The anime adaptation will premiere on January 10.
